Kadfeen demands regularisation of JK’s 6 thousand NYCs

Srinagar, June 26 (KNS): Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary on Friday sought redressal of grievances of more than six thousand NYCs recruited by the government post-2010 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Kadfeen said that it was in the year 2015 that the youth engaged under NYC scheme in Jammu and Kashmir had a hunger strike for months, demanding regularisation of their services as promised by the government. “Years have passed and the promises by the government have been kept in limbo by the authorities. As the government claims to have been launching recruitment drives in Jammu and Kashmir, it is questionable that these youth and their future have been left in lurch by those at the helm,” said Kadfeen in a statement to KNS.
He said that the scheme was launched by Government of India after the 2010 summer unrest, to tap the potential of the youth and “channel their energy towards nation-building”. The NYC was launched by amalgamating the then existing two volunteer schemes National Service Volunteer (NSV) and Rashtriya Sadbhawana Yojana (RSY).
“It is ironic that even when the popular governments in Jammu and Kashmir in the past have assured these youth that their services will be regularised, there is no forward movement witnessed in their cases so far. Such a dilatory mode of functioning is putting a serious question mark on the government’s claims of empowering youth and accord them a dignified way of living. It should be government’s priority at present to honor its past commitments,” Kadfeen asserted. (KNS)
