Jammu, Sep 28 (KNS): BJP Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Arun Kumar Gupta on Monday criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for referring to Pakistan while questioning the linking of restoration of statehood to the security situation, saying Islamabad has no role in India's internal constitutional matters.

Gupta said the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir was an internal matter and questioned the relevance of Pakistan in the debate over restoration of statehood. His remarks came after Omar, while speaking in the Legislative Assembly, questioned whether making statehood conditional on the guns falling silent would effectively leave the decision to Pakistan.

The BJP spokesperson said neither Pakistan nor its institutions could have any role in determining when or how the constitutional powers of Parliament and the Government of India are exercised.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe said Jammu and Kashmir's constitutional arrangements should be dealt with by India's constitutional institutions.

Gupta also referred to Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, saying it was for investigating agencies and courts to determine whether any particular statement attracted its provisions. He, however, said political leaders, particularly those holding constitutional office, should exercise caution while making statements concerning India's sovereignty and security.

"The BJP rejects any attempt, direct or indirect, to give Pakistan relevance in India's internal affairs," Gupta said, adding that the future of Jammu and Kashmir would be decided within India's constitutional framework.(KNS)
