Bandipora, July 10 (KNS): Residents of Kudara village in Bandipora district have accused the PMGSY department of failing to construct drainage system along the road and turning the village into a flood zone.

The residents said that whenever it rains flash floods from nearby streams flow across wide roads in the area. "Due to the unavailability of drainage systems along the roadside, floodwater enters our homes and leaves us high and dry," they said.

Bashir Khan, a local resident said that last year, due to a cloud burst in the area, they faced significant losses. "We have requested the authorities multiple times since then, but they haven't paid any heed to our requests."

They said that it is disheartening to witness the failure PMGSY in our area, while despite authorities spending hefty amounts on constructing roads, they have neglected to provide proper drainage systems.

"As a result, we continue to suffer the consequences of flooding whenever it rains. The lack of foresight and oversight in implementing such crucial infrastructure projects is deeply disappointing and highlights a significant flaw in the system", they added.

The majority of the people here are living below the poverty line, relying on farming and other similar occupations to sustain their families. When their homes are flooded and their livelihoods are affected, it not only brings financial hardship but also a profound sense of despair.

The residents appealed to the deputy commissioner Bandipora to personally look into the matter. (KNS)
