SKUAST inaugurates 10 days field oriented training programme

Srinagar, Nov 20 (KNS): Faculty of Forestry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir today inaugurated ten days field oriented training programme on the burning issue of “Forest Fire Emergency Control and Management” at SKUAST Kashmir Shalimar.
The event was organized in collaboration with Forest Protection Force (Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir). Prof Nazeer Ahmed Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K who was the chief guest in his inaugural address stressed the need for coordination among the research institution and line departments of Forest, Forest Protection Force department and Wildlife Protection department to ensure the effective management and conservation of forest and wildlife resources of our state. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor complimented the organisers for taking this pioneer initiative of conducting this much needed field oriented training programme for the first time for final year students of Forestry under FOWEX which is expected to be instrumental in exposing the students to various tools and techniques being used in dealing with various challenges being faced in ensuring effective forest management and conservation.
Dr. Khursheed Ahmad, Programme Coordinator and Coordinator FOWEX welcomed the dignitaries and the participants to this programme. Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Banday Dean Faculty of Forestry in his opening remarks introduced the programme and stressed upon the students to take keen interest in learning the new experiences with respect to fire management and emergencies and Shri Irfan Ali Shah Joint Director, Forest Protection Force, Kashmir presented a detailed account of the forest fire control and management and provided the brief about the training programme being imparted to the trainee students during the ten days.
The function ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Javeed Ahmad Mugloo, programme coordinator. (KNS)
