Arabic Calligraphy Competition Held at GDC Baramulla

Baramulla October 13:(KNS) Government Degree College, Baramulla conducted an Arabic calligraphy and handwriting competition in order to improve presentation skills and to inculcate the habit of good handwriting among students. The students from different colleges of Kashmir valley participated in the competition with great zeal and exuberance and showed excellent creativity through their calligraphic skills. Explaining the purpose of the event, Prof. Mohammad Maqbool Rather, Principal of the college, said that various art forms could be kept intact only by sharing art for the next generations. Dr. Syed Masarat Geelani, the organizing Secretary, while highlighting the importance of the event stressed upon that Calligraphy is a skill that requires great patience and in practicing patience we find ourselves letting go of the chatter in our minds and focusing all our energies on the task at hand. The competing students were assessed for their calligraphic skills by the selected panel of teachers headed by the worthy Principal of College and other members which include Mr. Gulzar Ahmad Paul (HoD Arabic, Government College for Women M.A. Road, Srinagar) Dr. Syed Masarat Geelani (HoD Urdu) and Dr. Ruqaya (HoD Arabic). The assessment was done based on writing style, curves and patterns, legibility and beautification.
Zaira Shafi from Govt. College for Women M.A. Road, Srinagar grabbed the 1st position, Zainab Bhat from Amar Singh College bagged the 2nd position, and Nausheen Hassan from GDC Ganderbal won the 3rd position. The worthy Principal also felicitated other participants of the event with certificates of merit.(KNS)
