Srinagar, September 7 (KNS) : Apni Party Provincial President Mohammad Ashraf Mir and his several party colleagues on Monday joined the protesting MBBS and BDS interns along with several party colleagues, extending support to their demand for a fair and adequate hike in their internship stipend.

Pertinently, medical interns from 10 Government Medical Colleges and two Dental Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir began a 48-hour hunger strike on Monday at GMC Srinagar after talks with the government failed to resolve their demand for an enhanced monthly internship stipend.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Ashraf Mir said the young doctors were being subjected to “grave injustice” and were being paid a meagre amount in the name of a stipend.

He said these talented medical professionals were rendering their services round the clock, yet were being provided only Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 per month as an internship stipend.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Mir urged the government to increase their stipend on a par with interns in other parts of the country who perform similar clinical duties.

He said the government should address the interns’ genuine demands within two weeks, failing which, he warned, the Apni Party would launch a hunger strike and hit the streets to intensify protests across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Besides Mir, the prominent party leaders who joined the protesting MBBS and BDS interns included party Spokesperson Ishrat Bhat, District President Srinagar & Constituency In-charge Central Shaltang Zaffar Habib, Provincial Youth President Kashmir Jibran Dar, Youth District Vice President Srinagar Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, Mateena Rajput, and others.(KNS)
