Srinagar, Nov 07 (KNS): J&K Muslim Waqf Board Vice Chairman Peer Muhammad Hussain today resigned from the post without disclosing the reasons of quitting.
The development took place a day after he addressed a press conference detailing his “achievements and measures” that he took for revamping the Board.
“I have submitted my resignation to the chief minister five days ago, but I don’t know whether it has been accepted or not,” Hussain told KNS.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is the chairman of the JK Waqf Board.
“I worked with dedication and honesty during this time and took several measures for improvement for the board and its properties. Anyone can now run it smoothly,” he said.
Pressed for reasons for resigning, Hussain said: “I will reveal the reasons at an appropriate time.”
On Monday, Hussain addressed a press conference where he detailed his achievements and measures he had taken to revamp the board.
“I addressed the press conference yesterday to highlight my achievements and work done during my tenure.”
In January last year, Hussain in an interview to the Kashmir Magazine had said that he would resign if he was not able to revamp the Wakf and its properties.
“I say with honesty that if I am no able to implement the new plan to revamp Wakf or contribute for it, I will resign,” he had said.
Hussain, a senior PDP leader, was in March 2012 nominated as Vice Chairman of the J&K Waqf Board the then chief Minister late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed till the Vice Chairman is elected formally. However, he continued as VC as no one was elected formally to the post. (KNS)
