Budgam, Oct 09 (KNS): President of Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, Hujjat-ul-Islam wal-Muslimeen Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi, on Friday emphasised that true repentance requires more than verbal expressions of remorse, calling for sincere self-reflection, abandonment of sins and continuous moral reform.
Delivering the Friday sermon at Markazi Imambara Budgam, Aga Sahab said that Allah Almighty has kept the doors of repentance and forgiveness open for His servants, stressing that recognising one's mistakes and making a firm resolve not to repeat them are essential to genuine repentance.
He observed that human beings are prone to errors and shortcomings, but sincere repentance offers an opportunity for spiritual renewal and self-improvement. He said seeking forgiveness is an invaluable spiritual asset and no individual should become heedless of it.
Referring to the teachings of martyred Ayatollah Murtaza Mutahhari, Aga Sahab described repentance as an “inner revolution”, explaining that just as an external revolution transforms social and political structures, an inner revolution requires a determined struggle against selfish desires, negative tendencies and moral weaknesses.
He said genuine repentance demands not only remorse for past mistakes but also a conscious effort to change the habits, attitudes and underlying causes that lead a person towards sin.

Aga Sahab said Allah Almighty has endowed human beings with consciousness, willpower and the capacity for spiritual growth. He emphasised that overcoming base desires and satanic temptations while embracing righteousness, piety and moral integrity enables a person to attain spiritual elevation and move closer to Allah.
He cautioned that becoming enslaved to personal desires distances individuals from their higher human dignity and moral responsibilities, underlining that inner purification and self-reform must remain a lifelong commitment.
Concluding his sermon, Aga Sahab stressed the importance of reflecting upon Dua Abu Hamza al-Thumali and Quranic verses concerning seeking forgiveness. He said repentance, prayer and Istighfar strengthen a person's connection with the boundless mercy of Allah and guide them towards spiritual and moral transformation.
He emphasised that verbal repentance acquires its true meaning only when accompanied by the practical abandonment of sins, improvement in one's character and a sincere commitment to righteous deeds.
Aga Sahab also prayed for the recovery of those suffering from illnesses and sought Allah Almighty's mercy and forgiveness for all believing men and women through the Wasila of Muhammad and Aal-e-Muhammad (AS).(KNS)
