Jammu, Sep 10 (KNS): A state-of-the-art desktop simulator will be installed at the Jammu Lobby of Northern Railway's Jammu Division to provide loco pilots with advanced training and enhance the safety of train operations, officials said on Thursday.
The initiative is aimed at improving the technical skills, operational efficiency and emergency-response capabilities of loco pilots by providing them with training in conditions simulating real-life railway operations.
The simulator will enable loco pilots to virtually experience challenging situations such as dense fog, heavy rain, landslides, signal failures and other adverse operational conditions.
It will also provide training in signalling, braking techniques and locomotive operations, helping personnel improve their technical proficiency and decision-making skills, officials said.
The facility will allow loco pilots to practise handling emergency situations, including brake failures, overshooting and sudden obstructions on tracks, without exposing them to risks associated with training on an actual locomotive.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Officials said repeated training through the simulator would also reduce fuel and resource consumption, making it a safe, economical and environment-friendly method of skill development.
The facility is expected to strengthen regular training, refresher courses and skill development programmes for both new and serving loco pilots. It will also help personnel identify and rectify operational shortcomings.
The Jammu Division has also recently organised awareness programmes focusing on the mental health and welfare of loco pilots, officials said.
The installation of the simulator is being seen as another step towards strengthening safety measures and boosting the confidence and preparedness of loco pilots.
The Jammu Division is continuing efforts to achieve the Indian Railways' objective of "Safety First", officials said.(KNS)
