Srinagar, Mar 19 (KNS): Srinagar Municipal Corporation today kick started plantation drive. The drive which was inaugurated by Commissioner SMC Riyaz Ahmed Wani was organized by Floriculture Officer SMC Zahoor Ahmed Shah in collaboration with Chief Sanitation Officer Mohammad Akbar Sufi.
The plantation drive began near Bakhshi stadium where SMC planted multiple species of plants/saplings.
The plantation was also taken up at Lalded hospital where the administration staff under the supervision of Dr Shabir Ahmed Siddique along with the attendants present there participated in the drive.
Riyaz Ahmed Wani passed on spot instructions to conduct weekly special sanitation in all associated hospitals within the city limits with a special thrust on LD hospital.
Directions were also passed that the maintenance of park in front of LD hospital will be hence forth taken care by SMC.
He further said that many parks in Srinagar city shall be landscaped by Srinagar Municipal Corporation at an earliest.
The motive of planting trees shall not only beautify the surroundings but shall also provide clean and fresh environment to the people living in and around Srinagar city said Commissioner SMC.
He further said with this initiative the pristine glory of Srinagar city shall be regained and it will also help in achieving the mission of cleaner and better city.
All the senior Municipal Officers including Ward Officers participated in the event and planted around 1000 saplings at many places across the city.
Meanwhile the civic body also launched the plantation drive at Soura 90 Feet near footpaths and other green patches, including Safa Kadal Alijan road, Pantha Chowk and Malkha.
Different species of trees including pussy willows, cuprous, conifer, chinar saplings and other ornamental trees were planted on the occasion. (KNS)
