Remote villages in north Kashmir still cut-off

Srinagar, Nov 17 (KNS): More than a week after heavy snowfall threw life across Kashmir out of gear, dozens of remote villages in north Kashmir are still cut-off from the rest of the world while power supply also is yet to be restored in some areas.

Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions vehicles are not able to ply on Kupwara-Machil and Gurez-Bandipora roads due to which commuters are facing immense hardships.

They said due to fresh snowfall in the last two days on already accumulated snow, traffic on different routes, leading to far-flung and remote areas, including near LoC, remained suspended since last Thursday.

“Power supply in dozens of villages across the north Kashmir has also not been restored since the heavy snowfall occurred on November 7. People in these areas are suffering immensely in the absence of basic amenities,” reports added.

The residents of these far-flung areas have appealed to the Lt Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan to personally look into the matter and restore the road links and electricity in their areas. (KNS)
