Srinagar, Aug 31 (KNS): Awami National Conference (ANC) senior vice president and member of JK Civil Society Coordination Committee Muzaffar Shah on Friday said that no panchayat elections will be fought till petition of seeking scrapping of Article 35-A is not dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Shah in a statement issued to KNS from New Delhi said that anybody filing for panchayat elections will be socially boycotted.
Speaking to the media contingent present at the SC immediately after the Apex Court’s decision, Muzaffar said that though the SC didn’t grant any interim relief to the petitioners, pleading for admission to medical/Engineering and other colleges to non-state subjects.
“However, postponing the hearing on the main matter to January 2019 was nothing but a cosmetic treatment given to this sensitive issue,” he said.
“As Article 35-A was a sovereign guarantee given by the parliament and elected Prime Minster of India late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru to the elected Prime Minister of J&K state late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, it was only the Jammu and Kashmir legislature that had the powers to modify, annuls or tinkers with this constitutional provision,” he said.
He said that on earlier three occasions in the year 1961, 1968 and 2010, the learned Apex Court had dismissed similar petitions and today people of this country and in particular the people of Jammu and Kashmir expected similar ruling from SC in the future.
Shah congratulated people of Jammu and Kashmir for steadfastly uniting under one voice for dismissal of 35A petition.
Meanwhile, Advocate Mir Javid one of the members of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Coordination Committee (JKCSCC) accepted as an intervener in Article 35-A case urged people to boycott the Panchayat and Municipal elections till the Supreme Court dismiss the petitions seeing scrapping of the State Subject Law.
Advocate Mir also said that no elections should be held in the State until the Apex Court dismisses the petitions instead of deferring the hearings for time being. (KNS)
