Claims of democracy, continuous oppression can never go side by side: Malik

Srinagar, Sep 07 (KNS): Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik Friday said that the “claims of democracy and continued tyranny and oppression against unarmed civilians and peaceful political resistance can never go side by side.”
Malik as per the statement issued to KNS while condemning the ongoing repression in Jammu Kashmir especially in the south and north of Kashmir valley, said that “on one hand the rulers and their Kashmiri supporters claim and propagate democracy and on the other hand suppressing peoples voices through military and police might is continuing.”
Malik said that Jammu Kashmir is a state run by police might and killing innocent humans, arresting peaceful political activists and leaders has become a normal here.
He said that only few days ago Pulwama witnessed a blood bath where dozens of villages were cordoned by Indian occupational forces. Malik said that beating people, vandalizing their properties, humiliating honorable citizens has become a new normal for Indian colonial forces who have no respect for human life or dignity.
Malik said that during crackdown in Pulwama, trigger happy forces opened fire on civilians killing one more Kashmiri youth Fayaz Ahmad of Chewa Kalan Pulwama on spot and injuring dozens more.
“This killing spree is a well-devised plan of Indian occupation and its soul aim is to inflict more harm and injury to Kashmiris, intimidate them and force them into submission in front of the illegal occupation,” Malik said.
He said that crackdowns have become a daily routine and during these military operations, beating common people without the discrimination of age and gender, arresting, torturing and humiliating innocents, vandalizing and destroying properties, blasting and burning down residential houses and private vehicles has increased at an alarming proportion which is highly condemnable.
Malik said that killings, arrests, lootings and shootings cannot put a nation into submission which has resolved to fight for its freedom and dignity. “Indian rulers must realize that people of Jammu Kashmir cannot be put into submission by these tyrannical acts and killings. In fact our resolve to achieve freedom and right to self-determination gets strengthen by this oppression,” Malik asserted.
Malik said that Kashmiris are facing worst apathy in Indian jails like Tihar jail, Mandawali Jail Delhi and jails of Jammu Kashmir including Udhampor jail, Khutua Jail, Hiranagar jail, Amphala jail Jammu, Srinagar central jail, Mattan Jail, Baramullah Jail, Kupwara jail, Kot-Balwal jail and other incarceration centers.
He said that “India being a signatory to the Geneva Convention on prisoners was supposed to adhere to the international law but contrary to this, India is employing every oppressive means to inflict more and more harm to these inmates and suppressing them ruthlessly.”
Malik said that torturing inmates, putting them in solitary confinements and cells, humiliating their visitors have become common practice of authorities in jails.
Meanwhile, on JRL’s call, JKLF activists and leaders staged a protest against continuing crackdowns, brutal killings, spree of arrests and oppression unleashed against Kashmiri inmates.
JKLF leaders and activists including JKLF leaders and activists along with people from many walks of life today gathered at Maisuma Lal Chowk and staged a protest against the ongoing crackdowns in the name of CASO, brutal killings, spree of arrests, suppression of Kashmiri inmates languishing in various Indian jails and the jails of Jammu Kashmir, beating people during CASO and other oppressive acts by Indian occupation in Kashmir valley especially the southern districts.
