Srinagar, 07 Sept (KNS): The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference today pays glowing tributes to the architect of modern J&K, Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 44th death anniversary. Senior leaders of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference described his era of leadership as farsighted, visionary and marked by wisdom in confronting the challenges of the future.

In a joint statement, the leaders expressed deep reverence and respect for the historic personality, recalling that the unprecedented outpouring of grief witnessed 44 years ago, on September 8, when millions of men, women and young and old participated in his funeral procession, remains a testimony to the extraordinary bond between Sher-e-Kashmir and the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

They said that few leaders in the world have enjoyed such immense affection, trust and devotion from their people. Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was a hugely popular, beloved, fearless and uncompromising leader who cherished his homeland and inspired its people to remain steadfast in its service. He fought not merely against individual oppressors but against the entire system of oppression and injustice.

The leaders said that Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s struggle was never narrow or confined to a particular interest. He challenged hereditary rule and played a historic role in ending the feudal order, dismantling the oppressive structures of autocratic rule and ushering in an era of political empowerment and social justice.

The leaders said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir would remain indebted to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for generations to come for giving them a voice and securing democratic and political rights for the people.

It may be recalled that the 44th death anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah is being observed today, September 8. On the occasion, Quran Khwani, floral tributes and a commemorative gathering will be held at his mausoleum at Naseem Bagh. The collective Fateh Khwani will be offered at 10:00 AM.(KNS)
