Lone asks government to come to rescue of landslide hit families of Chandoosa

Srinagar, Mar 31 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Senior leader and Member of Parliament from Barammula Muhammad Akbar Lone on Tuesday expressed sorrow over the losses to property of the people in Chandoosa Village of Baramulla district following landslides triggered by heavy rains.
A statement issued to KNS reads, Member of Parliament while expressing solidarity with the affected said, “The reports have it that the landslides were triggered by heavy rains. Many residential houses, cowsheds have incurred heavy damages due to the catastrophe. The families are still staying put in the area putting their lives in danger. The meteorological department has predicted more rains in the coming days. I urge the government to shift the families to safer places until the entire area is not visited by geology and mining officials and other district officials for necessary evaluation. Meantime the affected families should be provided with free ration, and fodder for cattle for some months. The district administration should depute revenue teams to access the losses incurred by the families at an earliest. I also urge the government to give monetary help to the affected families to help them run their household chores.”
Lone said so far 14 members of two families have been shifted to a nearby higher secondary school but reportedly the area where they have been shifted to is also prone to landslides. “The local administration should thoroughly evacuate all the villagers and shift them to a safer location, where they be provided with all basic edibles, blankets. There are various hamlets in north Kashmir which are prone to frequent landslides, the government should do a survey of such areas and come up with embankments, modifying lope geometry, installing structures such as retaining walls, and grouting rock. Social forestry and forest department should also chose such vulnerable areas and carry out plantation drives,” he said.
Meanwhile party’s district president Baramulla and former minister Javaid Ahmad Dar has also urged the administration to come to the rescue of affected people. He has expressed solidarity with the affected families. (KNS)
