‘Who expelled me from party?’

Srinagar, Nov 05 (KNS): Hitting back at Peoples’ Democratic Party, Member Parliament Rajya Sabha said party’s spokesperson has no authority to expel him from the party.

The PDP on Friday expelled its Rajya Sabha member Nazir Ahmad Laway from the party for “anti-party activities”, after he had attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The member of Rajya Sabha, Nazir Ahmed Laway, has been expelled from the basic membership of the party,” a PDP spokesman said in a statement here.

Laway said he does not accept the expulsion.

“How can a spokesperson issue a statement for my expulsion when party president Mehbooba Mufti is behind bars since August 5? Tell me who the spokesperson is who expelled me?” Laway asked.

Laway is not new to the controversies. Earlier, he had abstained from voting against the triple talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha this year.

Laway had torn a copy of the Constitution, along with PDP MP Mir Mohammed Fayaz, on August 5 before Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the Jammu and Kashmir Re-organisation Bill in Rajya Sabha.

Asked whether the party had directed him not to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Lieutenant Governor, he replied, “Had the party directed me then I might not have attended the swearing-in ceremony? Even no party leader told me why I attended the function.”

He said he won’t join any other political party. “I will take the mission of Mufti Mohammad Saeed forward who made me the Parliament Member. My father has been a political worker.”

He said after the demise of Mufti Mohammad Saeed, the PDP could not fulfill the politics they claimed at the formation of the party.

“No leader left the PDP on own but were expelled from the party,” he claimed.

For the last over a year, several senior PDP leaders like Imran Raza Ansari, Altaf Bukhari, Abid Ansari, and Abdul Majeed Padroo were either expelled or they left the party for several reasons. (KNS)
