India At BRICS Helm

Ready

New Delhi, Sept 11 (KNS): India is set to take centre stage as it hosts the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, bringing together leaders of major emerging economies for discussions on global governance, economic cooperation, sustainable development and pressing international challenges.

The summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam under India’s 2026 BRICS chairship, its fourth after chairing the grouping in 2012, 2016 and 2021. India’s chairship is guided by the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” with a focus on making BRICS a constructive and solutions-oriented platform.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead India’s engagement with leaders of the BRICS member countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, among others.

The summit comes against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions, conflicts in different regions and uncertainty in global trade and the international economy. Leaders are expected to deliberate on strengthening multilateralism, reforming global governance institutions, promoting economic and financial cooperation and advancing the interests of the Global South.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

India is also seeking greater cooperation among BRICS members in areas including trade, investment, energy security, technology, innovation and sustainable development. New Delhi has been advocating practical cooperation that can deliver tangible benefits for developing economies.

The summit is expected to provide an opportunity for India to engage with key global powers and advance its priorities on a broad range of international issues. Modi’s recent meeting with Putin ahead of the summit also focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas including energy, defence and trade, besides discussions on conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region.

With India hosting the leaders’ summit and steering the grouping’s agenda, the New Delhi meeting is being closely watched for its potential to strengthen BRICS cooperation and reinforce the role of emerging economies in shaping the global order.(KNS)
