Srinagar, September 11 (KNS) : Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Friday presided over an important party meeting attended by party leaders and workers from across Srinagar city.

During the meeting, participants thoroughly discussed and identified various public issues and grievances, particularly the infrastructural and developmental deficit in Srinagar, which is causing grave hardships to residents.

The participants also expressed deep concern over growing unemployment and the lack of adequate livelihood opportunities for the youth in Srinagar city.

They pointed out that, as the people of Srinagar do not fall under any reservation category, except the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), whose quota has also been reduced by the present government, the youth in the city face further limited opportunities for employment.

The meeting also discussed the problems confronting the artisan community. The participants said that the government has failed to take adequate initiatives to support and promote artisans in the city.

They further expressed concern over cabs and taxis from outside the Union Territory operating in Srinagar, saying that this is adversely affecting the livelihoods of local youth who have purchased vehicles through bank loans.

The participants also raised concern over the lack of modern infrastructure in the city that could help attract more tourists and boost the local economy.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

They said that most areas of Srinagar continue to grapple with a shortage of basic amenities, adding that even adequate power and water supply is not being provided to residents in many parts of the city.
The participants said that despite two years having passed since the present government assumed office, it has failed to take effective measures to address the pressing public issues confronting Srinagar city.

After detailed deliberations, the participants decided that Apni Party would start organising public conventions across Srinagar to provide a platform to people to identify and raise their issues.

These conventions, they said, would also help put pressure on the government to take concrete measures to address the problems of the people and end its apathy and neglect towards Srinagar.

The first such convention will be held at Chinar Colony, Parray Pora on September 20, followed by another convention at Natipora-Rambagh on September 27. Similar public conventions will subsequently be organised in other constituencies of Srinagar as well.

During these conventions, local residents will be invited to participate and directly identify and raise the issues that are causing continuous hardships to them.

The initiative is aimed at bringing the concerns of Srinagar’s residents to the forefront and seeking concrete action for their redressal.
