DG Prisons visited district Jail Udhampur, Kathua

Jammu, Jun 25 (KNS): V.K. Singh, IPS, Director General of Police (Prisons) today visited District Jail Udhampur, District Jail Kathua & Sub Jail Hiranagar to take stock of security arrangements & to evaluate the general living conditions & training facilities available in these Jails. During his visit to District Jail Udhampur, he was accompanied by DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Sujit Kumar, IPS, SSP Udhampur- Rajiv Pandey, IPS, Assistant Commandant CRPF &DySP, HQ Udhampur. Superintendent District Jail Udhampur -Harish Kotwal/Superintendent District Jail Kathua- Mushtaq Ahmad Malla/Superintendent Sub Jail Hiranagar- P.K. Modi & others Jail Officers were present during these visits.

The DGP inspected all barracks, skill training centers, hospitals, CCTV control rooms, kitchens & other sections of these Jails. He interacted with the inmates regarding food, accommodation, medical & training facilities available in the jails. He took note of physical layout, staffing levels, legal Aid services, ongoing construction works& requirements of these Jails. He instructed the Jail Superintendents to exercise vigil, ensure dynamic development of staff & take necessary measures for welfare of staff & inmates.

The DG also took a Darbar of Prison staff during which he attended to their grievances. He emphasized that being security & correctional personnel the staff must always work in the interest of security& reformation of inmates.

He gave on spot directions to the Technical wing of Prisons Department for undertaking repair & renovation works in barracks & conversion of a new building into staff mess & canteen at District Jail Kathua. (KNS)
