Srinagar, Sep 15 (KNS) : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday handed over appointment orders to candidates selected through the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE), telling them that an individual officer has the power to force the system to change — and urging them to serve the people with honesty and integrity.
Addressing the newly appointed officers at the SKICC in Srinagar, CM Omar as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said their appointment marked "a new beginning" and not the destination of their journey, and asked them to reflect on how they wished to be remembered when their careers ended. Honest, capable and hardworking officers earn respect, he said, while the corrupt and dishonest are also remembered — but without respect.
"Don't think you can do nothing until the system works with you. You can make the system if you want to," the Chief Minister said, stressing that a single officer is capable of bringing change.
Citing the examples of former Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan and Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, he said officers should not hesitate to take initiative or wait for the system to change before making a difference.

"There is a story behind every file," CM Omar reminded them, saying every application and complaint represents a person's problem, reason or compulsion that needs to be understood.
The Chief Minister asked the officers to focus on the key challenges before Jammu and Kashmir — improving the education system, retaining children in schools, improving cleanliness and the beauty of cities, and addressing the impact of climate change.
He told the selectees they had received an opportunity that very few people get, and urged them to use their positions to contribute meaningfully to the future of Jammu and Kashmir. Assuring them of his support, Omar said he would continue to follow their careers in the coming decades.
"Take the right path, make the right decision and serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir," he said, wishing the officers success. (KNS)
