Kupwara, Nov 18 (KNS): Following the reports of overloading, overcharging fair and traffic norms violation, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kupwara, Mukhtar Ahmad on Saturday conducted drive on different routes of Handwara against the norm violators and realized Rs 10200 fine from them.
According to KNS correspondent, a special naka was laid by ARTO Kupwara at Handwara and checked dozens of vehicles today.
He was accompanied by Inspector Parvaiz Ahmed and other officials from Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kupwara.
27 vehicles found violating the norms were challaned.
Meanwhile, the team headed by ARTO Kupwara Mukhtar Ahmad aware people about the traffic norms and road safety rules.
The team said that it was prime duty of the commuters to raise their voice against overloading and use of mobile phones while driving.
ARTO Kupwara told KNS that several complaints regarding overcharging of fares by some sumo operators were received from past several days, following which a drive was conducted today.
Ahmad said that Rs 10200 were realized from the norm violators during the drive.
“The norm violators will be dealt with strictly while such drives would continue in the future,” he added. (KNS)
