ADC directs PDD division Handwara to ensure adequate electricity in town

Srinagar, Apr 22 (KNS): A day after the Kashmir News Service (KNS) carried out a news item tilted ‘Handwara villages get one hour power in a day’, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara has took a strong note of it and has written to the Executive Engineer PDD division Handwara, asking him to ensure adequate electricity is supplied to the villages.

ADC Handwara in a written direction has told Executive Engineer PDD division hardware that “There is criminal negligence in providing the regular power supply to Handwara town. I am to intimate you that time and again this office has been asking your department to regulate the power supply in Town Handwara.”

He has said that it has been observed that since November 2018, Handwara town has been facing acute shortage of power supply which has been badly affected the functioning of essential services in Handwara particularly Health and PHE sector.

“From last ten days particularly the power supply has remained completely off which has resulted in acute shortage of drinking water facility in town. Whenever you have been asked about the matter you just pass the buck projecting lamb excuses, Suspicions are arising about the cause of damaging 10 megawatt transformer in grid station. The people are agitated and annoyed over the issue and there is every possibility that it may become a law and order problem for the administration and its responsibility shall solely lie on your shoulders,” the order, a copy of which lies with KNS reads.

Meanwhile, traders federation Handwara president, Aijaz Ahmad has said that in case the demands will not be fulfilled soon, then they will hit the streets to press for the demands.

Moreover, the Civil Society Handwara had also sent a detailed memorandum to the ADC in this regard, seeking his intervention. (KNS)
