IUST Observes World Diabetes Day

Srinagar, Nov 14 (KNS): World Diabetes Day was observed at IUST Awantipora on 14th November 2017. Prof. Abdul Hamid Zargar, distinguished diabetologist and Former Director, Shere-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, delivered talk on “Emerging Trends in Obesity and Diabetes Mellitus - Its impact on Women's”during the event. Prof. Zargar gave an overview about the Obesity and Diabetes with respect to changing lifestyle. He highlighted the causes and effects and control measures of these Non-Communicable Diseases with special reference to women. Over the years, many diseases including diabetes and heart diseases have increased in India. He stressed that there is need to change our lifestyle habits including diet, and aware the people to counter the effects of these diseases.
Taking on the occasion, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor, IUST said Human health is challenge at global level and developing countries/areas suffer more when tackling health related issues. He further said that role of clinical laboratories in performing various tests for diagnosing of various ailments is very essential and important. Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Qurishi, Dean Academic Affairs, earlier welcomed the Guest and thanked him for sparing his valuable time for the talk.
The event was attended by galaxy of scholars, students, faculty and various officers of the varsity. The lecture was followed by the Question & Answer session in which students and faculty put forth their queries to Prof. Zargar. At the end, Prof. A. M. Shah, Dean School of Business Studies made vote of thanks. (KNS)
