BJP spokesperson Danish Bhat hits out at Omar Abdullah over historical remarks

Srinagar, Sept 10 (KNS): BJP Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Danish Bhat on Thursday hit out at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his remarks on Kashmir’s history, accusing him of “weaponising history” and displaying “dynastic arrogance”.

In a post on X, Bhat said that giving a Rajya Sabha ticket to one person and cabinet status to another “may pass for politics”, but alleged that dragging an entire civilisation into the controversy to defend a political associate was a different matter.

“If Walter Lawrence’s exaggerations can be elevated into gospel truth and an entire Kashmiri civilisation can be reduced to the contemptuous claim that its people were ‘without pyjamas’, then I see little reason to demand a higher standard when history turns to Sheikh Abdullah,” Bhat said.

Referring to a 1982 pamphlet titled Life of Sheikh Abdullah: An Open Book, the BJP leader alleged that it portrayed Sheikh Abdullah as a corrupt leader and land grabber and claimed that he had amassed wealth worth Rs 20 crore.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Bhat said the issue raised questions about the “double standards” in interpreting Kashmir’s history and alleged that while Kashmiris were being asked to accept historical accounts portraying them in a derogatory manner, the political legacy of Sheikh Abdullah was being shielded from scrutiny.

“If you want to weaponise history, @OmarAbdullah, have the courage to accept the whole record,” Bhat said.

“You cannot demand that Kashmiris inherit every insult ever written about them while your own political inheritance is placed beyond scrutiny,” he added.

The BJP spokesperson concluded by describing the approach as “not historical honesty” but “dynastic arrogance”.(KNS)
