‎Srinagar, Sept 30 (KNS): MLA Doda Mehraj Malik was marshalled out of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday after he objected to the discussion on regulating social media and said there was no law to stop people from using such platforms.

‎Malik was speaking during a debate on the media and social media when he questioned the need to continue the discussion, saying the House was spending time on an issue that could not be addressed without a legal framework.

‎He said there was no existing law that could prevent people from using social media and argued that it was not appropriate to unnecessarily consume the House’s business hours on the issue.

‎The Speaker subsequently directed that Malik be marshalled out of the Assembly.

‎Malik’s remarks came during a discussion on the need for regulation of social media and the role of the media, during which Education and Health Minister Sakina Itoo said the government was working on a new media policy.
‎
‎The debate also saw legislators call for clearer rules governing social media and the functioning of the media, while others questioned the feasibility of controlling digital platforms in the present environment.(KNS)
