Zuhaib Mir targets NC over electricity bill distress

Srinagar, May 15(KNS): Peoples Democratic Party leader Zuhaib Mir criticised the ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference over electricity issues, alleging that the party had failed to fulfil its promise of providing relief to consumers under the proposed “One Time Settlement” scheme.

In a statement issued during a public outreach programme at Dalgate here, Mir said the power outage at a household during the interaction reflected the hardships faced by residents. He claimed the family had been without electricity for nearly six months.

“Six months of darkness, uncertainty and helplessness, while those in power continue to deliver speeches and photo-ops,” Mir said.

He alleged that the promise made by the National Conference in its election manifesto regarding a one-time settlement for pending electricity bills had turned into a “betrayal of public trust.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”

According to Mir, people had voted with the expectation that relief would be provided to families struggling with rising electricity bills and economic distress, but instead were facing “excuses, arrogance and indifference.”

The PDP leader said families were already dealing with unemployment, inflation and economic difficulties, while also being burdened with what he described as high electricity bills despite erratic supply and prolonged outages.

Mir also took a swipe at the government over its remarks on consumers’ ability to pay electricity dues, saying the administration’s approach reflected a disconnect from the ground situation faced by ordinary people.(KNS).
