Minimarg, June 9 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said the Zojila project will provide all-weather connectivity between the Union Territory and Ladakh, while giving a significant push to tourism, economic activity, and national security in the strategically sensitive border region.

Speaking at the Zojila Eastern Portal, LG Sinha as per KNS congratulated the people of J&K and Ladakh and lauded the engineers, scientists, and workers who have been working in harsh weather conditions to complete what is being seen as a game-changer for the region.

“I congratulate the people of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir and all those associated with this project who worked tirelessly in adverse weather conditions,”LG Sinha said.

The Zojila Pass, situated at an altitude of over 11,500 feet on the Srinagar-Leh highway, remains closed for nearly five months each winter due to heavy snowfall, cutting off Ladakh from the rest of the country by road.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe tunnel — India’s longest bidirectional road tunnel — is expected to change that permanently.

LG Sinha also thanked Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and his ministry for executing key infrastructure projects in J&K and Ladakh, adding that improved road, air, and rail networks over the past decade had transformed previously neglected regions.

The Lt Governor emphasised that the tunnel would strengthen national security in the sensitive border area, ensuring seamless movement of armed forces and supplies throughout the year. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed soon and dedicated to the people who have long waited for reliable connectivity.

With the annual Amarnath Yatra set to begin July 3, LG Sinha said the improved connectivity would also provide significant relief to pilgrims. (KNS)
