Zojila records extreme minus 16, cold wave tightens across Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 1(KNS):  Cold wave conditions tightened their grip across Jammu and Kashmir on Monday as minimum temperatures dipped further in most parts of the region, with several stations recording temperatures below the freezing point, officials said.


Srinagar settled at minus 1.9°C, while Qazigund recorded minus 1.0°C and Pahalgam minus 0.4°C, according to the data compiled by Kashmir Weather. 

Kupwara saw a sharper fall at minus 3.2°C and Pampore also registered minus 3.2°C, they said. Gulmarg and Kokernag recorded 0.3°C and 0.2°C respectively.

Srinagar Airport recorded minus 3.6°C, Awantipora minus 2.0°C, Budgam minus 2.5°C, Anantnag minus 1.4°C, Bandipora minus 2.8°C, Baramulla minus 4.7°C and Ganderbal minus 1.2°C, the data showed. 

Sonamarg registered minus 1.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel4°C, while Zethan Rafiabad recorded minus 4.0°C. Zojila Pass remained the coldest in the Valley at minus 16.0°C, officials added. 

In the Jammu division, Jammu city recorded 9.6°C, Katra 9.4°C, and Jammu Airport 9.8°C.

Banihal settled at 3.5°C, Batote 4.6°C, Bhaderwah 3.7°C, Kathua 7.4°C, Udhampur 5.8°C, Ramban 6.6°C, Samba 4.5°C, Rajouri 2.8°C, Kishtwar 7.9°C, and Reasi 8.1°C.

Temperature figures for Doda were unavailable.
In Ladakh, Leh registered minus 4.6°C, Kargil minus 3.8°C and Nubra Valley minus 3.9°C.

Officials said the persistent drop in temperature has increased the chances of dense morning fog in plains of Jammu as well as slippery road conditions in higher reaches.(KNS).
