Srinagar, Dec 15 (KNS): Inhabitants of Zewan Thursday staged protest demonstration against the proposed government plan to rehabilitate aggrieved stone quarries of Athwajan their area.
The residents assembled in Press Enclave here and chanted slogans against the government.
They said that they have learnt that the government is mulling to allocate place for stone quarrying in their area.
Inhabitants of Zewan told KNS that they have been suffering immensely for last many years due to the pollution by the cement factories and now the government is shifting the stone quarry owners in their area, which will further worsen their problems.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Instead of directing the cement factory owners to install pollution control devices in the factories, the government is forcing residents here to face more hardships,” he said.
They said that the government must not ignore their plights and must act according to the aspirations of residents.
The residents later appealed government not to allow stone quarrying in Zewan. “In case, the government the government fails to fulfill their demands we will take streets against the government,” they threatened. (KNS)
