Baramulla, May 4 (KNS): Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking, Baramulla Police arrested a drug peddler and seized a psychotropic substance during naka checking at the Gulmarg Entry Point (GEP), officials said on Monday.
A Scorpio vehicle (JK05M-6306) was signalled to stop, but the driver allegedly attempted to flee upon noticing the police party. The alert naka party apprehended him on the spot, they said.
The accused was identified as Muneer Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ab Rasheed Sheikh, a resident of Lawaypora, Srinagar. On preliminary observation, he appeared to be under the influence of a psychotropic substance, police said.
During a personal search, approximately 3 grams of a substance was recovered, which on primary testing was identified as Methaqualone, commonly known as Qualudes or Mandrax.

The accused was arrested on the spot and the vehicle was seized. A case under FIR No. 11/2026 under sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the concerned police station and an investigation has been initiated.
Baramulla Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against the drug menace and urged the public to cooperate in eradicating the social evil. (KNS)
