Srinagar, May 16 (KNS): A complete shutdown is being observed in Zainapora area of Shopian district against the killing of youth Irfan Ahmad Sheikh (21), who succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS on Thursday predawn hours. Anger is brewing among the youth for what they called a “coward and unacceptable action” whoever has done it, militants or anyone else.

“You can’t kill someone just because they voted. Kashmir is an issue of right to self determination. Everyone has a right to vote or boycott depends upon their ideology. This will have disastrous consequences and will be rebelled like anything, if such things are not stopped,” said a group of angry youth.

Sheikh was injured after militants attacked him and his another colleague Muzzafar Ahmad Bhat after a group of militants took the duo from their chemist shop in Zainapora towards a nearby orchard and fired upon them on May 8. Bhat is under treatment at SKIMS Soura.

Family sources said that Sheikh had voted for PDP in the recently Lok Sabha polls and had no affiliations with the PDP. “He was a relative of former PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir. He had voted because of family reasons.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe was running a chemist shop,” they said.

Sheikh was popularly known asSam in the area and was well known cricketer.

Sheikh was the only son of his ailing parents who was supporting them by running a chemist shop.

As soon the news about the death of Shiekh spread in the area, the whole Zainapora observed complete shutdown against the killing. On May 8, when they were attacked, the area had observed shutdown against the attackers and called it a “brutal and unacceptable” action.

Police and paramilitary forces have taken precautionary measures in Zainapora to maintain law and order.

“There is complete shock among the people. This should not have happened. You can’t kill someone on party affiliations or mere voting in elections. Kashmir is an issue of plebiscite and everyone is free to exercise his will. Killing someone just because he voted is terrible and not acceptable,” said a group of local youth.

“A case under FIR number 25/2019 under section 307 and 364 RPC has been registered and further investigations were taken up,” a police spokesman had said. (KNS)
