Srinagar, June 01 (KNS): In order to give a flip to the sports activities being carried out by the Department of Youth Services & Sports throughout the year in all the three divisions of the state, Director General of the Department Jahangir Mir (KAS) chaired a meeting of all the District Youth Services & Sports Officers of the Kashmir Division in his office chamber here on Wednesday. Jahangir Mir was briefed about the ongoing sports activities in various Districts of the region by the concerned district officers. DG Sports expressed his happiness on the huge participation of student players in various games and sports and directed his subordinate officers for adopting an unbiased approach while dealing with the selection of players in various games for different competitions. DG Sports congratulated all the ranks of Youth Services & Sports Department for making 2015 a year of achievements for the Department since the state of J&K has crafted space on the country’s Sports Map by taking the Medal Tally to 38 with 5 Gold, 10 Silver and 23 Bronze medals in various National Level Events during the previous year. He also disclosed that 330 Number of School Play Fields are being developed by the department during 2016-17 which will surely help in tapping and shaping the sports talent of school children of this state.
It was unanimously decided in the meeting that a separate calendar of activities will be issued and strictly followed to carry out the sports activities under newly launched centrally sponsored scheme Khelo India in all the three regions of J&K. While stating the importance and uniqueness of this scheme DG YSS Said that, “The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, GOI has rechristened Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan as ‘Khelo India’.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel” He further added, that “Mass participation of Youth in Annual Sports Competitions through a structured competition, Identification of Talent, Guidance and nurturing of talent through existing sports academies and new setup either by the Central Government or State Government or in PPP mode and Creation of sports infrastructure at mafussil, Tehsil, District, State level, etc are the basic attractions of this scheme.
It was also decided in the meeting that Youth Services & Sports will organize a League Knock-out Tournament for Student and Non-Student players of Kashmir Division in the near future. While highlighting the need of such kind of sports activity DG Sports stated that the time has come when every such person should get chance of proving his metal without the restrictions of being or not being on the rolls of any Educational Institution. He said that there are thousands of such young boys and girls in various Districts of Kashmir who have innate talent of sports and are just waiting for a chance that would give a flick to their talent and help them in getting involved with games and sports in a systematic manner. He directed all the DYSSOs to get all the interested Student and Non Student players associated with the said Grand Tournament and get the talent of our youth channelized in a positive manner.
Besides others Joint Director Kashmir YS&S Bashir Ahmed, Deputy Director Central YS&S Haji Mirza Hussain, AO, In-charge Press and Publicity and other senior officials of the Department were present in the meeting. (KNS)
