Youth drowns to death while taking a selfie on the Power Canal bank in Central Kashmir

Ganderbal, June 22:(KNS) A 19-year-old boy drowned to death while taking a selfie on the bank of Power Canal here in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

 

 Police sources said that a teenager who had gone to Sonmarg for picnic lost his balance while attempting a selfie on the bank of Power Canal at Gund Aku area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

  

The incident occurred on late Monday evening. Shortly after the incident, Gund police and locals had started a rescue operation that was suspended due to darkness. 

 

 Sources added that after hectic efforts the body of the youth was fished out on Tuesday. The slain youth has been identified as Muhammad Salim Khan son of Abdul Majeed Khan, a resident of Syed Fazal Abaad Pandach area of Ganderbal.

  

A police officer while quoting his relatives said that slain youth was on a picnic along with his six friends.

   

He said after the completion of all medico-legal formalities, the body has been handed over to family for last rites. A case in this regard has been registered at police station Gund. 

  

Meanwhile, locals demand fencing around either side of the Canal. They say a number of such incidents have occurred in the past as well and after every incident, they reiterate their demand of fencing, but nothing is being done in this regard. (KNS)
