Yatra Tragedy: Health teams deputed for Yatra duty are safe, says Director health

Ganderbal, July 08(KNS): As the situation in Amarnath yatra became critical after a cloudburst struck the area near the holy shrine with at least 10 dead, the staff deputed for yatra duty including doctors, paramedics and other supportive staff members are reportedly safe, a top health official said on Friday. 


The Director, Health Services Kashmir Dr Mir Mushtaq informed that the staff deputed for yatra duty doctors, paramedics and other supportive staff members are reportedly safe. 

we have no reports of any injury to any staff member so far," he said. 

Notably, thirteen people were killed as a cloudburst hit close to the base camp of the holy cave shrine of Amarnath on Friday. Police and civil administration are engaged in rescue operations, while the injured have been airlifted in a helicopter for treatment. 

"Situation is under control, rains are still going on. Looking at the hazard level, the Amarnath Yatra has been halted temporarily due to the area being inundated. If the weather remains normal and makeshift arrangements are made, then the yatra can be resumed tomorrow," said an official.(KNS).
