Srinagar, Jun 05 (KNS): Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) in collaboration with Department of Wildlife Protection (J&K) Wednesday organized two sessions of wildlife awareness events on World Environment Day in Hirpora and Tattakuti Wildlife sanctuaries–the two abodes of the Kashmir Markhor (Capra falconeri).
The events, which were held at Hirpora (Shopian) and Hillkaka - a fringe village of Tattakuti wildlife sanctuary was in sync with the current environment theme of “Beating the Plastic pollution”.
In sync with the series of the ongoing conservation awareness drive, the events were aimed to generate awareness among the budding youth and about the narcotic effects of plastic pollution. The event held in Hirpora Shopian saw the participation of four schools of Hirpora village –in close proximity with the Hirpora Wildlife sanctuary, whereas in Hillkaka village -nestled in the middle of Tattakuti wildlife sanctuary- the local people made it to the event.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe conservation ritual in Hirpora Shopian took the form of debate competition while as in Hillkaka village it was interactive and participatory in nature.
Speaking on the occasion, Riyaz Ahmad, WTI Project Head Markhor conservation Project said, Man as a crown of creation has a mandated responsibility of serving the creation as if he is serving the creator, he further exhorted that it is time to rise beyond symbolism and save the mother nature by discouraging the use of Plastic bags and Polythene.
Expressing his appreciation for the programme, Mohammad Ishaque Shah, Chairman Hill Valley School, Hirpora Stressed to either refuse or reuse the plastic as measure to control the plastic menace. (KNS)
