Srinagar, Feb 02 (KNS): Wular Conservation and Management Authority (WUCMA) today celebrated World Wetlands Day at Zurmanz Village situated on the lake shore of Wular lake.
On this occasion, importance of Wular lake was highlighted which provides various ecological, hydrological and cultural services.
Wular Lake which is one of the largest lakes of Asia is a declared Ramsar Site and a lake of international importance. It plays an important role in flood mitigation of Kashmir valley. Coordinator Water Management WUCMA Irfan Rasool who was present on the occasion launched awareness cum anti-poaching campaign for protection of water birds in Wular Lake. He said that this campaign will be carried out in every Wular notified village through road show, mobile van broadcast and children rallies to create peoples moment. Eco-development committees were also formed in the event in which volunteers registered themselves to work for the preservation and management of Wular lake. (KNS)
