World Suicide Prevention Day: DH Bandipora organises one day workshop

Bandipora September :(KNS) District Hospital Bandipora organised one day workshop on World Suicide Prevention Day at its New Campus here in Bandipora area of North Kashmir. 

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is celebrated annually on 10 September, is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The event represents a global commitment to focus attention on suicide prevention.

Under this year’s theme “Creating hope through action,” reflects the need for collective action to address this urgent public health issue. All of us- family members, friends, co-workers, community members, educators, religious leaders, healthcare professionals, political officials and governments- can take action to prevent suicide in the Region.

The programme was organised by District Mental Health Team on the directions of Medical Superintendent DH Bandipora and was presided over by Dr Pervaiz Sajad, Dr Arun, Clinical Psychologist DMHP Bilal Ahmad Mir, PM DMHP Aubair Hussain Lone, AMDH Tafazul Yousuf Mir and other officials of Hospital who highlighted the importance of celebrating this day.

Speaking on the occasion Speakers highlighted the causes and the prevention of Suicide. They said that Suicide is a major problem as well as a serious concern which has to be addressed. “Every Suicide is a tragedy which affects families, communities as well as people left behind, they said.

Moreover, one has to realise the thought process through which a person can control irrational thinking patterns and substitute negative thoughts with positive ones, they said.(KNS)
