World No Tobacco Day observed across Sopore

Sopore, May 31 (KNS) : World No Tobacco Day was observed across the Sopore town of North Kashmir in Baramulla district where people including students took a pledge not to consume tobacco and its products and encourage others for the same.

In town Sopore, a grand event was organized at Boys higher secondary school with a theme 'Protect The Environment' in which large number of students across different schools and colleges participated.

An awareness rally in this regard headed by the BDC chairperson Dr Fareeda Khan was also carried out. The rally passed through the busiest Iqbal Market in town and culminated at Dak Banglow Sopore, students from various educational institutions took part in it. 

The event was organized by the government boys higher secondary school in collaboration with the Anti Corruption Foundation of India and Care of Rehabilitation Foundation. 

BDC chairperson, Dr Fareeda Khan was the Chief guest on the occasion, while as ZEO Sopore Abdul Salaam and people affiliated with civil societies and other civil and government based organizations were present during the day-long event. 

Speakers urged for result oriented awareness campaigns/seminars at grass root level for a healthy and tobacco free environment.

They also discussed the significance of the day and urged them to make significant efforts for the Tobacco free environment at Institution, while students also spoke on the event and highlighted the ill effects of smoking and other tobacco consuming acts.

A similar kind of event was also held at government Higher Secondary School Bomai. The event was organized by Civil Defence Baramulla and Youth Building Trust Bomai in Collaboration with the Higher Secondary School Bomai. 

An awareness rally was also taken out from the school campus which passed through the Bomai market. 

Tehsildar Bomai, Mohammad Asif Malik was the chief guest on the occasion. 

Apart from the organizing body committee members, SHO Bomai Imtiyaz Ahmed and people from various civil bodies were present on the occasion.(KNS)
