World Disability Day: DC Bandipora constitutes committee to address issues of PWD

Bandipora, December 03(KNS): Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad on Thursday directed to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of ADC Bandipora to address the issues faced by the persons with special needs.

He said this while addressing a function organized to observe World Disability Day by district administration in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Health, Education and ICPS. He said the committee will be headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner with officers from Social Welfare, ICPS and representatives of Associations of people with disabilities as its members.

The committee will look into the special needs of the people with special abilities so that measures are taken to ease the problems faced by these people. DC Bandipora also sought an action plan for Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2006 from Department of Social Welfare for implementation so that necessary actionable steps can be initiated as per the mandate of this Act.

Dr Owais also directed the Chief Medical Officer Bandipora to conduct special camps for 100 percent registration of PWD under J&K Health Scheme and also directed for identification of two rooms in DH Bandipora having proper ramp facilities, helpers, wheel chairs etc for conducting of weekly District Medical Board.

He said the district administration is akin to the problems faced by the people with special needs and assured them every possible support that will ease the problems of such people. He said the district administration distributed 89 aids and appliances including hearing aids, smart cane, KFO,AFO, wheel chairs, brail kits, tricycles, CP Chairs, smart phones during the current year to children with special needs. Besides this, he said, 6364 persons with different kind of disabilities are receiving monthly pension through the Social Welfare Department.

On the occasion, DC Bandipora also distributed cash assistance among 29 children with special needs and also provided COVID sanitary kits besides distributing Disability Certificates 10 PWDs.

Dc Bandipora stressed on providing better facilities to the children with special abilities so that they can get a better education. He said providing better education and healthcare facilities to such individuals should be the priority for all and assured that all required measures shall be taken to ensure a better education for these individuals.

He said the Government has taken several measures for the welfare of the disabled persons from time to time, including financial assistance in the shape of pension, free education, free medical treatment, free travel, vocational programmes etc and a large number of people are availing these benefits.

Earlier during the programme the persons with special abilities apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the problems being faced by them and sought early redressal of their grievances.

Assistant Commissioner Revenue Reyaz Ahmad Beigh in his speech threw light on the importance and significance of celebrating international day of persons with disabilities and also shared his experience of fighting with disability. Chief Education Officer Bandipora Javid Iqbal, District Social Welfare Officer, representatives from ICPS and other Associations were present on the occasion(KNS).
