Srinagar, April 17 (KNS): The Division of Wildlife Sciences at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised a one-day workshop on “Application of Molecular Genetics in Wildlife Conservation” at the Faculty of Forestry, Benhama on Friday.
The workshop was held under the Scientific Social Responsibility activity of an ANRF-sponsored research project on Asiatic Black Bears. It aimed to build awareness among youth and highlight the role of molecular genetics in understanding and managing wildlife populations.
Researchers, scientists, academicians, wildlife managers and students from SKUAST-K and other institutions participated in the programme.
Tawqir Bashir, Assistant Professor and Organising Secretary of the workshop, delivered the welcome address and spoke about the relevance of such programmes in the present wildlife conservation scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Akhlaq A. Wani, Head of the Division of Natural Resource Management, highlighted the importance of advanced molecular techniques in improving conservation efforts.
Chief Guest Parvez A. Khan, Head of the Division of Forest Biology and Tree Improvement, appreciated the initiative and called for more such programmes in the future.
Experts from University of Kashmir, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Lovely Professional University delivered lectures on tools, techniques and software used in molecular studies related to wildlife conservation.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Amir Bhat, Assistant Professor at the Division of Wildlife Sciences.
