Srinagar,  July 01:(KNS)  The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference today said women's political participation besides being a human right, is also a key to thriving democracy and the Party has traditionally and frontally worked to end gender bias.

While addressing the meeting of party’s Women’s Wing Functionaries, Party’s State Women’s Wing President Shameema Firdous asserted the cornerstone of the development programme of the party is to empower the women of the state saying that whenever the party was in power implementing gender neutral, youth focused policies and programs have topped its to-do-list.

On the occasion scores of young women from district Kupwara joined the party fold. Those who joined the party fold on the occasion include Jawahira Ji, Sabroza Ji, Asifa Ji, Shaista Ji, Shaheena Ji, Tabassum Ji, Rabiya Ji, and Safeena Ji. The new entrants, on the occasion vowed to strive towards making the party stronger on grass root level.

On the occasion party’s provincial president women's wing Er. Sabiya Qadri and other provincial level functionaries welcomed the new entrants into the party hoping that the party will benefit from their wide ranging experience in different fields.

Shameema said that it was Sher e Kashmir who brought women of Jammu and Kashmir into the political discourse. "It was NC that took upon itself to change the fate of women of J&K under its revolutionary Naya Kashmir manifesto. In the later decades also, whenever NC was in power, it left no stone unturned to transform its vision of empowering women into reality. It was Madre Meharban, who used education as a fundamental tool to bring about change in the attitude of women on the line of the vision enshrined in the Naya Kashmir document, "she added.

Er. Sabiya Qadri in her address to the functionaries said that the contemporary women of Jammu and Kashmir are suffering from more predictable issues as a result of conflict, household violence, dowry, destitution, poverty and unemployment. "There has been no headway towards bolstering the socio, economic and political prospects of women since 2015. The successive governments since 2015 claimed much as an act of tokenism but on ground nothing was done to mitigate the suffering of women,” She said.

Later Party vice President and provincial president (K) welcomed the new entrants into the party fold hoping the measure will help in the grass rooting of the party.(KNS)
