Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNS): Family members of a 26-year – lady (Name withheld) who was allegedly burn by in-laws, Saturday staged protest demonstration at Press Enclave here, demanding justice.
The victim has received severe burn injuries at Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district after her in-laws allegedly tried to burn her alive, for failing to fulfill dowry demands, they said.
The victim with 40 percent burn injuries is presently going under treatment at SMHS hospital here, where her condition is stated to be critical.
The lady of Dangerpora Budgam was married to Adil Gani Lone of Namlabal Pampore in September 2015.
“She was subject to domestic harassment buy her in-laws who were demanding dowry,” said Muhammad Yasin Sofi, younger brother of the victim.
The family members alleged that the victim has been subject to domestic violence from past one year as in-laws demanded dowry.
“On Thursday night, she made a phone call and informed us about the atrocities and harassment she had faced past night.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelDue to unrest, it was not possible for us to reach out to her,” said Lone.
He added that her second sister is married in the Pampore locality who was contacted and asked to give visit to Namlabal and inquire about health of her sister.
As my sister reached there, she was too harassed.
The family said that next day they decided to visit her.
“We heard cries as we reached there. We saw our sister burning,” said Rumaisa, younger sister of the victim.
He added that the victim was immediately taken to nearby hospital from where she was referred to SHMS hospital. Her condition is to be stated critical.
Senior police official told KNS that FIR number 189/2016 has been registered under sections of 498A, 354, 306/511 of RPC.
He added that accused including husband of victim have been arrested and manhunt has been launched to nab the other absconding accused. (KNS)
