Will raise Budgam’s civic issues, condemn harassment of Kashmiris during Budget session: Aga Muntazir

Jammu, Feb 3 (KNS): Budgam MLA Aga Syed Muntazir on Tuesday said he would use the ongoing Budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to raise what he described as long-pending civic and developmental issues faced by the people of Budgam.

Speaking to KNS outside the Assembly, Muntazir said residents of Budgam had been deprived of basic facilities for decades. “For the last 40 years, people of Budgam have suffered due to lack of clean drinking water, proper roads and adequate healthcare facilities. I will try to ensure that these basic rights are addressed,” he said.

The legislator also expressed concern over incidents of alleged harassment and targeting of Kashmiris and Muslims outside the Valley. He alleged that repeated attacks were taking place and claimed that the government’s silence on the issue was a matter of concern.

“There are repeated incidents, but no visible action is being taken. Those involved are not being arrested. This silence raises serious questions,” Muntazir said, appealing to civil society and those who believe in the rule of law to raise their voice against what he termed discrimination and communalisation.

Referring to the closure of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing in Reasi district, the MLA alleged that educational institutions were being “communalised and weaponised,” adding that such actions harmed the principle of inclusiveness and coexistence.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Muntazir also raised the issue of the proposed National Law University (NLU), stating that an announcement regarding its establishment was made on the floor of the Assembly on October 28, 2025, followed by the passage of a resolution to set it up at Badgam.

“The assurance given on the floor of the House was a commitment by the government to the people, not a political promise. Shifting the NLU from Badgam undermines the sanctity of the Assembly and the credibility of institutional decisions,” he said.

He urged the government to honour the Assembly resolution and proceed with establishing the NLU at Badgam, stating that academic institutions should be kept free from political or communal pressures.
