Will influence opinion in Indian media to print reality about Kashmir: Ex Union Minister

Says even elementary civil liberty has been choked in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNS): Former Union minister and India’s noted social worker Kamal Morarka Monday said there is completely a different picture one comes to know about Kashmir, while the ground reality is quite different.
Addressing a press conference here after meeting Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, Nayeem Khan and civil society members and Bar Association, he said he was shocked to hear that even elementary civil liberty has been banned in Kashmir.
“The civil liberties and rights have been curtailed. Geelani wasn’t even allowed to hold an Eid-Milaad function at his office inside a room. What kind of law and order problem that closed door conference would have created? New Delhi has to restore normal civil life here,” he said.
He said the Kashmir problem is jetted one and a very old problem, which can’t be discussed in two words or solve in two minutes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Put plebiscite and New Delhi and Islamabad aside for one minute. We need to restore civil rights here. You can’t curb political space like this,” he said.
The former union minister added that disproportionate force is not justified in any case. Kashmir has become a hell due to wrong approach,” he said.
He also said that those who claim that boys are being paid for pelting stones in Kashmir as “kiddish remarks”. “No one will throw his life into danger for mere Rs 500. Some solution and dialogue should be started,” he said.
He said after culminating the Kashmir visit, the minimum they can do is to try to influence opinion in Indian media to print the reality about Kashmir. “It is not what we see or hear in Mumbai and other parts,” he added. (KNS)
