Srinagar, May 16 (KNS): Overwhelmed by the Center’s acknowledgment of her demand for halting the anti-militancy operations during the holiday month of Ramadhan, Chief Minster Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday thanked Prime Minster Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh for taking the historic decision. In a tweet Chief Minster who had been at the receiving end for many days owing to opposition from State BJP unit as well the Defence Minster to ceasefire, said that the decision was possible due to personal intervention of Prime Minster and Home Minster. In a tweet, Mehbooba said, “I whole heartedly welcome the Ramdan Ceasefire and would like to thank @ Narendramod Ji & rajnathsingh Ji for their personal intervention.” Mehbooba however chose to expresse her gratitude to the local leaders of various political parties for their participation in the All party meeting and then arriving at a mutual consensus.

The announcement has come at a time when Opposition Parties including National Conference and Congress were criticizing Mehbooba Mufti terming her in factious for being not taken seriously in the centre. In a series of tweets Opposition leader and former Chief Minister Omar Abdulla had ridiculed Mehbooba for getting a cold response from her ally BJP on the demand of Ramdhan ceasefire. The PDP was even caught on wrong foot when Defense Minister Nirmala Sitaraman publically refused to accept the demand and said forces would continue to launch the anti-militancy operations in Kashmir. The Center’s announcement however, is being viewed as a victory for Mehbboba Mufti and is being considered a step with an extreme positive impact on the prevalent situation in Kashmir. (KNS)
