Srinagar, Jan 27 (KNS): In its attempt to completely eradicate drug menace form Baramulla district, the police Wednesday arrested a wheel-chair bound drug peddler in Tangmarg area in Baramulla district.
A police official said that Ajaz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar of Tantraypora, Tangmarg, was arrested with charas that he was selling to youth.
“Ajaz is a handicapped and wheel-chair bound. But he is notorious for selling charas to the youths of Tangmarg. Since Ajaz was wheel-chair bound, so he did not came under suspicion,” the official said.
He said that police has information about him for selling drugs to the youth, but was not finding any evidence against Ajaz, who runs a Kirana shop in the area.
The official said that today on specific information SDPO Tangmarg, Rameez Rasheed Bhat alongwith Executive Magistrate First Class Tangmarg and SHO Tangmarg, SI Sadat, seized charas from Ajaz’s possession.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
An FIR no 08/16 u/s 08/20 NDPS ACT has been registered at police station Tangmarg and investigation is ongoing, he said.
While appreciating the role of police, locals said police has been actively eradicating crimes in the area from the last several months.
"Police from the past few months have played laudable role in arresting gamblers and drug peddlers. These crimes have become a social menace here," Lateef Ahmad of Khaipora told KNS.
The locals said the district police has got an able leadership in SSP Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain and the young officer, SDPO Rameez Rashid Bhat, for reining in criminals and other offenders. (KNS)
