Water scarcity hits Hundwara's Haril village

Kupwara, Nov 16(KNS): Residents of Haril village of langate in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday complained that their area is without potable drinking water from last few weeks while the concern department is paying no attention towards sufferings.

The local villagers said that administration has failed to provide the basic facilities to the people.The villages facing acute water scarcity since last few weeks while the department has laid the pipes some decades ago and the same pipes now are fully damaged forcing us to get water from distance.

The Villagers said that Jal-Shakti department has left them on god’s mercy, adding that the department has miserably failed to provide drinking water to them.

They said that they have approached the authorities many times and received assurance of getting the regular water supply soon but no step has been taken by them in this matter so far.

A residents of the area told that their women folk face lot of hardships in fetching water from different spots. Even this summer season we were without drinking water while the concerned authorities doesn't pay attention to us.

He said that the government should pay attention to us as we have been without drinking water for the last three months and we are facing all kinds of difficulties to find drinking water.

“We are being forced to fetch dirty water from nearby stream because there is no proper pure water supply in the area as most of the residents belong to lower class of society, we cannot afford to buy water purifier or other products which can purify this dirty water,” said Muneeb Ahmad, a local resident of Haril

Meanwhile, the residents of affected areas have appealed the district authorities and Jal-Shakti department to look into the matter, so that the normal water supply service can be restored

However, When KNS contacted Executive EngineerJal Shaktidepartment Handwara he assured water supply in the area will be restored tomorrow(KNS).
