Water Bodies in Mirhama Reduce to Garbage Dumps Locals Allege Neglect, Demand Immediate Cleanup

 Kulgam, Feb 15 (KNS) ; Several water bodies, including ponds and streams in the Mirhama area of Kulgam district, have been reduced to mere dumping sites due to rampant disposal of garbage, triggering serious environmental and health concerns among the local population.

 
Residents have reported that heaps of household waste and other debris are now scattered in and around these water sources, leading to severe contamination. Locals expressed anguish over the deteriorating state of the water bodies, stating that the accumulation of waste is not only killing aquatic life but also emitting a foul stench, significantly increasing the risk of water-borne diseases in the vicinity.
 
"We are witnessing our natural resources being destroyed in front of our eyes. The water is now stagnant with filth, and we fear an outbreak of diseases if this continues," said a local elder.
 
In an urgent appeal to the District Administration Kulgam, the residents have demanded swift and concrete measures to restore and safeguard these vital water bodies.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThey have urged the authorities to deploy dedicated sanitation teams, install waste bins at strategic locations, and conduct regular cleanliness drives to prevent further degradation.
 
While holding the administration accountable for enforcement, the locals also implored their fellow citizens to cease the irresponsible dumping of garbage into the waters. They requested the authorities to identify and take strict action against those found polluting the environment to serve as a deterrent.
 
"Preserving these water bodies is our collective responsibility. We need joint efforts from the administration and the public to save the natural heritage of Mirhama for future generations," the residents added in their plea to the administration. (KNS)
