Srinagar, Apr 12 (KNS): Responding to the shutdown call by pro-freedom leaders, valley came to halt on Tuesday, against the desecration of Martyrs graveyard and harassment of Kashmiri students in India.
The shutdown call was given by almost all the factions of Hurriyat including Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The shutdown call was also supported by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Chairman and senior Hurriyat leader, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief, Syedah Aasiya Andrabi. The call was also supported by Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association.

Authorities placed senior leaders of the Hurriyat (G) including Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Peer Saifullah, Muhammad Ashraf Laya, Altaf Shah, Raja Mehrajudin and Ayaz Akbar under house detention while senior separatist leader Shabir Ahmed Shah continues to be in police station Rajbagh, senior resistance leader Nayeem Ahmed Khan has also been placed under house arrest last week.
The shutdown call was given against the growing attacks on Kashmiri students in Indian states, slapping of Public Safety Act on youth, and alleged desecration of a martyrs graveyard in Karimabad area of South Kashmir a few days ago. (KNS)
