Srinagar, Nov 24 (KNS): Shutdown is being observed in the Valley against the killing of three militants in a village in Anantnag district on Monday.
The shutdown was called by Hurriyat (G) Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani.
Shops, business units, schools were shut, while public transport was off the roads. However, thin movement of private cabs is visible in towns and in the city.
The attendance of employees in government offices was affected as the employees could not reach to their offices due to absence of public transport.
Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants, all from Bijbehara, were killed in an encounter with army and police in Siligam village in Ashmuqam area of Anantnag district.
Police had identified the slain militants as Sartaj Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone of Wopzan, Adil Ahmad Sheikh son of Fayaz Ahmad of Sheikh Mohalla, Bijbehara and Tanveer Ahamd Bhat son of Mubarak Ahmad Bhat of Baba Mohalla, Bijbehara.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Reports from Bijbehara said that the three slain militants were laid to rest in “martyrs’ graveyards” amid slogans of freedom and in support of the militants.
According to KNS correspondent form south Kashmir, thousands of youth poured towards Bijbehara to offer funeral prayers for the slain militants.
Meanwhile, Geelani addressed the mourners in Bijbehara telephonically and slammed India and pro-India politicians.
“Our youth are sacrificing for a great cause so we need to protect their sacrifices. The pro-India politicians are only prolonging our way to freedom. The three martyred youth have sacrificed their lives for Islam and freedom from India. We must honour their sacrifices,” he said in his address.
After the funeral, youth took out processions and shouted slogans against India and for freedom. (KNS)
